Mediation is a service for couples, parents, children, grandparents and other family members involved at any stage of separation or divorce.  It is a way to make decisions, with the help of an impartial mediator on matters such as:

 

future living or parenting arrangements for your children;

property and financial settlements;

balancing budgets.

 

Mediation can help you to achieve this in a structured and thorough way that allows you to stay in control of the outcome.  Mediation is NOT marriage guidance, counselling or reconciliation.

 

Kent Family Mediation Service was established in 1983 and has developed considerably since that time. 

 

The Service is a company limited by guarantee, is a registered charity, recognised by the Law Society and has a Legal Services Commission quality Mark.  The Service offers FREE Legally Aided family mediation to anyone eligible; just ask for an assessment. 

 

We are affiliated to National Family Mediation who are the professional organisation for 'not for profit' services.

 

We are a 'not for profit' charity.  This means that any excess funds are used to ensure continuation and longevity of the Service. 

 

We currently have a team of 8 trained, experienced mediators (male and female) and 5 administrative staff.  All mediators are trained to the high standards and are members of the UK College of Mediators and are recognised as providers of Legally Aided family mediation by the Legal Services Commission.

 

Overall responsibility for the Service falls to the Trustees who give their time voluntarily; there are currently 7 trustees.
