Kent Family Mediation Service Has a Legal Aid Agency Contract
Kent Family Mediation Service has held a contract with the Legal Aid Agency (formerly known as the Legal Services Commision) since 1999 and despite the Legal Aid cuts that came into effect in April 2013, Kent Family Mediation Service has been fortunate enough to be one of the few family mediation providers that have held onto its Legal Aid contract. The Legal Aid Agency actively monitors Kent Family Mediation Services overall performance and standard of work. It is vitally important therefore that all family mediation and the work carried out by Kent Family Mediation Service and its staff is of the highest standard possible.
Currently the only way a person can get Legal Aid for a divorce, or family issues e.g. sorting out money, the house and the children after a separation, divorce or the breakdown of any form of relationship (unless there are exceptional circumstances involving evidenced domestic violence), is to mediate via a Legal Services Accredited Mediation provider. There are only a small number of family mediation providers that offer Legal Aid in Kent.
The Legal Aid contract enables Kent Family Mediation Service to provide free family mediation and a number of free hours with a family solicitor in many accessible family mediation centres in Kent, to any service user who is assessed as being eligible to claim Legal Aid.
Legal Aid accredited family mediators have undergone a number of years training, experience and have completed lengthy portfolios evidencing their work. Kent Family Mediation clients can be confident in the knowledge that Kent Family Mediation Service Mediators hold the ‘gold standard’ mark of quality, and as such they are the only Family Mediators that hold a formal qualification to practice family mediation. Kent Family Mediation Service and Solicitor Supported Family Mediation in Kent
Kent Family Mediation Service recognises the importance of family mediation clients being able to consult a family solicitor at the time of reaching an agreement during family mediation. In these hard economic times, Kent Family Mediation Service also understands how financially difficult it can be for private family mediation clients to be able to afford to pay for this expensive legal advice.

Direct Child Consultations: ‘Giving Children a Voice in Family Mediation’
Kent Family Mediation Service believes that there are circumstances when it is appropriate for a child to be consulted during the family mediation process, in order to explore their wishes and feelings. If the child and both parents consent to this happening, it can be very useful and if the child consents for the family mediator to share this information with the parents, it can positively benefit and assist the family mediation process. Kent Family Mediation Service Family Mediators have undergone special training in order to facilitate conversations with children during family mediation, which take place in an informal, comfortable, safe and neutral family mediation setting. Click HERE to see how children are affected by divorce and separation and how they can be involved in the family mediation process.
