Venues & Charges
Administratively we are based in Sittingbourne, Kent. Mediation sessions can be held both here and at a number of other venues across Kent. Please note, that we are able to offer quicker and more flexible appointments and separate waiting rooms at our Sittingbourne office.
Rooms are hired from other voluntary and/or charitable organisations across the county and we are currently able to offer meetings in Gillingham, Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells and Canterbury.
ALL ENQUIRIES MUST BE DIRECTED TO OUR SITTINGBOURNE OFFICE
There are two aspects to the way in which we are funded. Firstly, we have a Legal Services Commission contract. This means that we are able to offer Public Funding for Free Mediation to those clients who are eligible. Everyone is offered the opportunty to be assessed for Public Funding. If eligible, there is no charge for any of the mediation sessions. You may wish to calculate whether or not you might be eligible by using the Legal Aid calculator which is available on the Community Legal Services website at http://www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk/en/legalaid/calculator.jsp.
If you are not eligible, or do not wish to be assessed, then we make a charge for the use of our service. Because we are able to attract funding from other sources our charges are subsidised.
Our current charges, inclusive of VAT, and applicable from 1 April 2008, are :
Initial Information Meeting
£75 per person (1 to 1½ hours)
Child Only Mediation Meetings
£140 per person per meeting (1½ to 2 hours)
All Issues and Property & Finance Meetings
£200 per person per meeting (1½ to 2 hours)
Drafting of Memorandum of Understanding
£240 per person
It is sometimes possible for child only mediation to follow immediately after the initial information meeting but only with the consent of both parties. If this is the case and you are not eligible for Legal Aid and have not been referred by your solicitor under the Code for Public Funding the mediation will be charged in 15 minute blocks, that is to say £17.50 per 15 minutes. Your mediator will discuss this with you.
